CHN/KOR - China take charge in second quarter, canter their way to gold

China took charge of the proceedings in the second quarter and cantered their way to win 103-80 over Korea in the gold medal game on Friday. Guo Ailun, was as usual, China’s highest scorer with 28 points, 21 of them in the second half. Giyun Kim was Korea’s highest scorer with a game-high 29 points before being ejected for five personal midway through the fourth quarter.

TPE/IRI - Methodical Taipei stave off Iran’s rally, win bronze

Chinese Taipei did nothing spectacular, but neither did they do anything silly and staved off a late Iran rally to win the bronze medal play-off 64-60 on Friday. Roman Huang’s boys thus ended a ten-year drought on the medals podium, along with earning Taipei the third ticket available to represent FIBA Asia at the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship to be held in Latvia.

Karam Mechref’s lay-up capped a fourth quarter rally for Lebanon and helped the WABA U18 champions beat a feisty Japan 67-65 in the seventh place play-off on Friday.

CHN/IRI - Second quarter surge takes China into gold medal game

China posted a 10-0 run midway through the second quarter and grimly hung on to it to hold off Iran’s challenge in the second semifinal on Thursday. China won 63-52. China thus entered after the gap of an edition and will gun to regain the gold they won at Urumqi in the 2006 edition, when they play against Korea on the morrow.
